Welcome to Parks Alive: Glen Waverley North Reserve (PA:GWNR) Pilot Project
A community-led pilot program designed to empower local residents to shape the future of their neighbourhood. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for local residents to collaborate with horticultural experts and fellow community members to co-design and implement hands-on greening and biodiversity projects.
If you live nearby and have ideas for enhancing the park’s natural beauty, whether through planting, design, or maintenance, we’d love to hear from you! We would like to know what plants you would like to see more of and where? Let your mind run free and let us know what you would like to see.
This initiative is a pilot program which, if successful, we hope will be rolled out to other parks and communal green spaces within the City of Monash to empower all residents who want take action to green their local community and improve biodiversity.
Take a Walk

Parks Alive Glen Waverley North Reserve was created to give local residents the opportunity to come together, get their hands dirty, be with nature, share a yarn, bond with country and make our local parks more beautiful and biodiverse. While we welcome big grand ideas, we are especially interested in those smaller more affordable and easily to implement ideas.
We invite you to take a walk round Glen Waverley North Reserve, have a think about what you would like to see and email us with your thoughts. They can be detailed ideas or just a few words about your general ideas for the park and to let us know if you are interested in helping out.
Working with Ground Staff
This project is being supported by the Monash City Council Horticulture Team. The insights and creativity of local residents will be combined with the Horticulture Team’s years of experience and site knowledge working in GWNR. The team are enthusiastic to work side-by-side with local residents to co-design areas in GWNR, collaboratively shaping a vision for the entire park!

Participatory Urbanism
The Parks Alive concept has been inspired by Participatory Urbanism movements all over the world which invite community members to be co-creators of their cities. It moves beyond consultation into real collaboration, where local knowledge, lived experiences, and collective imagination become essential tools in the planning process. Whether it’s redesigning a park, rethinking traffic flow, or creating more inclusive public spaces, the goal is to make cities not only more efficient—but more just, vibrant, and responsive to human needs.
Participatory Urbanism acknowledges that people who live in a place are experts in their own way. By making space for their voices, we build not just better cities—but stronger communities. Read more HERE
How to get Involved
If you are interested in joining the Parks Alive Glen Waverley North Reserve group, simply send us an email with the subject line: “I am in!” If you have taken a walk and have some ideas, then please share them.
In the future we will be sharing all the ideas and inviting the community to co-design the overall plan. As well as mapping out ongoing projects and a schedule of work (Working Bees).
If you have any questions please ask and please do tell your friends and neighbours about this project.
